Feeling Overwhelmed? 5 Practical Tips to Help Manage Your Life and #GetItDone

Don’t you wish you had a personal assistant just like your favorite celebrity?

5-7 mins

Honestly, I feel that I’m writing this post for me. Right now, I’m juggling between studying for an exam that’s in two weeks, working on my YouTube channel and blog (you’re reading it!), dealing with an annoying ear infection (went to the doc the other day), trying to avoid eating #allthesnacks in my house, making sure I moisturize my face after I shower, and working a full-time job. The list goes on!

Some days, I wish I have an intern or a personal assistant to sort out all the things I need to do. Perhaps a personal chef wouldn’t be too bad too. Plus, a personal fitness trainer. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Maybe one day. But for now, let’s focus on the things that we need to get done. Since we’re dealing with more things than ever before, now that the lines between work and our personal lives are blurred together, it’s so easy to be overwhelmed.

Take a deep breath, hold it in for four seconds, and exhale it out. I’ve recently learned about “box breathing,” which is used to reduce stress. Here is a link for more information on techniques and benefits.

Here are 5 Practical Tips to Help Manage Your Life and #GetItDone:

1. Prioritize your to-do list

When we’re worrying about so many things to do, it helps to put pen to paper (or device!) to sort out your thoughts. Start by making a list of all the things you need to do. Whenever you remember more items, you can add it to the list.

Here’s a guide that you can follow to craft the perfect to-do list.

2. Don’t be afraid to de-prioritize things on your to-do list

This should be self explanatory — when you prioritize some goals, you’ll end up de-prioritizing other goals. But this often gets lost in translation. You may think that you need to complete all your goals and that everything is a priority. But when you really think about it, is everything always a priority at that exact same time?

It can be hard to be choosy about the things that you need to work on, especially when you want to do it all. You can do it all, but it may not all be done at the same time. And that’s okay. If you can do it all without sacrificing your mental health, that’s fine too. But give yourself permission to scale back on things that you don’t absolutely need to do.

3. Stay calm so you can stay focused

When we don’t stay calm, it can be that much harder to stay focused. Remind yourself to breathe – inhale, exhale.

Acknowledge what you need to do; however, don’t stress or worry over it. Worrying doesn’t lead to an increase in your productivity or a higher quality of work. Rather, it increases your stress level, making you become less productive. Have you ever felt that you couldn’t do anything since you were just so overwhelmed?

Stay calm so you can stay focused. Also, don’t forget to enjoy the journey because once it’s gone, it can never be taken back.

4. Make sure your personal health is in check

When you have so many things you need to do, it’s crucial to prioritize getting enough sleep and rest. If you make your personal health and wellness a priority in your life, you’ll feel a hundred times better tackling things off your to-do list with your fully-rested self! Who wants to deal with a sleep-deprived, cranky, and irritable person?! Trust me, your roommates/SO/spouse will thank you for this.

#TSFTip: Set a timer and take a break for every 45 minutes of work you do. Move around and stretch your legs.

5. Stop comparing yourself to others

Everyone is on a different path. Try your best not to compare yourself to others, since everyone has struggles that they are going through. You are on your own path and building your dreams and goals, and they are too. You may think that they have everything you’ve ever wanted, but who knows? They might want something totally different than what they have right now and you can’t see through that. Stay in your lane and blast on full speed ahead!
