Warning: you may find yourself wanting to do ALL of them
3-5 min read
I feel you, smarty femme. You’ve been sheltering-in-place and you’re so over being at home all. the. time. COVID-19 has been lingering a little bit longer than we’d all hoped for.
I really hope you’re hanging in there, though. Really, take the time to do what you need to do to feel okay. My friends and I have realized that texting can only do so much, but calling or FaceTiming each other does amazing things for the soul. It also helps to release some steam from time to time.
Call your friend, call your mom, or even call your Aunt Deborah whom you haven’t seen in 2 years due to some twisted family drama. Kidding, I probably wouldn’t recommend the last one.

But, if you’re like me and feeling that you’re stuck in a rut, you’ll need to commit to shaking things up a bit.
Yes, that outfit you’ve been wearing for the past 3 days has got to go. Your hair that you haven’t washed in a week needs to be managed. And, those greasy takeout meals you’ve been having all week need to stop.
Now, you’re ready. It’s time to work on new, creative, inspirational and FUN things!
Below Are 5 Creative + Practical Things to Do:
1. Try your hand at sketching
Take out your old colored pencils and grab a sketchpad. You can even use a piece of cardstock that’s lying around. Open up your Photos app on your phone and find your last photo that you took. Now, attempt to draw that image!
Or, if you feel up for a challenge, try drawing your friends. I recommend not telling them at first, or you’ll probably freak them out (unless you think they’ll love it!). Once you’re done with your magnificent artistic drawing, you can then impress them.

2. Revisit your saved albums on Instagram
Open your saved albums on your Instagram and select your “cooking” or “baking” album. I know you have one!
Revisit all the delicious photos (with links to the recipes) that you’ve been saving to make on a rainy (or quarantine?!) day.
You can even take the extra step and think of it that today is the day you’ll be auditioning for Chopped! Except, maybe just choose one recipe. You don’t want your kitchen to end up looking like the Worst Cooks in America.
3. Embrace your musical self
Dust off your old guitar or ukulele that’s tucked away in the corner of your room. Music can really help you destress.
If you’ve been working all day in a field that primarily uses your left brain (think tech, finance, science, & math), give that side of your brain a break! I have a feeling that your inner rock band wannabe wants to come out.
4. Get inspired by HGTV
Take a good look around your house, apartment, or your room. Do you like how it’s laid out? How’s your decor? Would you like a leafy plant in a little corner?
You might be feeling the itch to redecorate, especially since your home space is truly important these days. Not only is it a place for you to sleep and unwind, it’s also a place where you entertain yourself and do fun things (instead of always Netflix and chillin’!).

5. Turn your smart TV into a karaoke machine
This one’s super easy. Select the YouTube app on your TV. Search the song of your choice (here’s a list of popular karaoke songs) and include the words “karaoke instrumental” in your search.
No need to get a karaoke machine. For an “extra” effect, grab an actual microphone to start singing out your feels. Or, will you be using a hairbrush?
Hope you enjoy, you smarty femme. Let’s hang in there together!
