I’m a skincare junkie, no question about it. While my skincare collection hasn’t reached levels to that of people featured on Hoarders, I do have a lot of skincare products. I enjoy testing out different formulas and I try my best to be diligent about my skincare routine.

Not only does it feel good when I’m slathering on some yummy-smelling moisturizer (#amirite), but I find it important to be investing in your skin’s future. Take care of your skin now to prevent problems later. You don’t want to look back and wished you should’ve taken better care of your skin five years ago.

In my recent blog post, I showed an unexpectedly useful item I use – my jade roller. I really like the jade roller since it helps to de-puff my face, increase circulation, and develop glowy skin. I’m not an skincare expert, but these were the things I’ve seen when I use the jade roller frequently.

How to Prep Your Jade Roller for Use:

  1. Wash the jade roller with warm, soapy water. You can also use alcohol-based wipes but those are becoming precious commodities these days. Stick to using warm, soapy water.
  2. Pat the jade roller dry with a clean hand towel.
  3. Place it in a small, ziploc bag and place it in your fridge overnight.
  4. Use the jade roller the next day.
  5. Repeat this process to clean your jade roller after every use.

TSF Guide: How to Use your Jade Roller

Step 1: Slim up the sides of your face

Starting from your chin, roll the jade roller up towards your cheekbones. Follow the perimeter of your face and use upward motions only while doing this exercise. As we age, our skin tends to sag, so we definitely don’t want to speed up that process!

Do this motion 5 times on one side, then repeat on the other side.

Step 2: Reduce the appearance of “the elevens”

The two lines that form between our eyebrows when we squint or think really hard are called “the elevens,” since they look like the number 11. These lines can make you seem angry or tired all the time, when you are not! People have resorted to using cosmetic procedures to avoid the appearance of these lines, but let’s stick to being au naturel.

First, make sure your face is relaxed. Next, roll the jade roller between your two eyebrows, as marked in the picture above. Apply pressure while rolling from side to side.

Do this step for about 10-15 seconds.

Step 3: Reduce your smile lines

Take a look at yourself in the mirror and smile.

The two lines that start from the corners of your mouth to your nose are called smile lines. Over time, these lines can become more prominent. That’s not to say that we shouldn’t laugh or smile often, although some celebrities have tried to do so, but we can use the jade roller to reduce the appearance of them.

Apply upward rolling motions over this area. This will help prevent the lines from becoming too prominent by improving circulation in this area.

Step 4: Decrease inflammation on your nose

Roll the side of your nose, pushing the jade roller upwards (as shown above). This will help reduce any inflammation that you have and keep your nose looking sharp and less puffy.

Step 5: Reduce under-eye circles

Use the smaller side of your jade roller for this step, if your jade roller has one. Apply gentle, upward motions on your under-eye area. Increasing circulation is especially important in this area since it can help reduce dark under-eye circles if you use the jade roller on a regular basis.
